March of Dimes - NICU Graduates

I have something really cool to share with you! Some of you are aware, but I know most of you unaware that my daughter was born 16 weeks early and weighed a mere 1lb 11oz. I’ll save the details for another day, but she spent 89 days in the NICU and we had some rough days. She’s now a perfectly healthy 16 year old kid. Because of this, I wanted to find a way to give back to March of Dimes and all they do to help moms and babies.

Every year they have a fundraising event called Signature Chefs and I reached out to see if I could donate a portrait session for their auction at the event. They happily accepted my donation and then reached out to me a little later with this idea they had about showcasing large prints of some people who had been in the NICU and have graduated from the NICU. They asked if I would be interested in photographing the “kids” (some aren’t quite kids anymore!), and I eagerly jumped into the project!

I shared the picture below I took of my daughter several years ago as an idea for how to capture the “Then & Now” of the graduates in one portrait and off we went!

My daughter, Texas, at 9 years old holding a portrait of herself in the NICU.

I encourage you to consider attending the March of Dimes Feeding Motherhood: Signature Chefs Auction event this year and supporting a wonderful cause. And while you wait for the event next month, please enjoy the portraits I took for the NICU Graduates that will be displayed at the event!
